Safety is important at Kuna Middle School. You may have noticed several security measures in place at our school. Parents have to "buzz-in" at the front door of the school to enter, all perimeter doors of the school are locked at all times, staff are on duty inside and outside throughout the day, we have an SRO, and dedicated security personnel. We also practice safety drills often.
Kuna School District follows the Idaho Standard Command Responses for Schools (ISCRS) for emergency procedures. This is standard responses for:
Hall Check: classroom & office doors are locked, teachers continue teaching, students are not allowed in the halls.
Lock Down: classroom & office doors are locked, teachers and students shelter silently out of sight in the classroom with lights off.
Evacuation: also known as a fire drill.
Reverse Evacuation: during recess or before school, student re-enter the building to a specific class.
We conduct safety drills often. Evacuation drills are conducted every month. Lockdown drills are conducted every semester. We also conduct Earthquake drills every semester. These are drills are coming up soon. Teachers review the protocols with students prior to the drills however we do not typically announce when the drills take place before hand. We will send out a notification to parents that the drill has taken place afterwards.
