Come join our Kuna Middle School parent groups! PTO and Parent Advisory Committee

The PTO will meet in the KMS library on 8/31 at 5:30-6pm. The Parent Advisory Committee will meet right after the PTO meeting at 6pm-6:30pm. The PAC will be discussing feedback from last year's parent survey and ways KMS is addressing parent concerns.

Shout Out Friday!!!

Today we recognized some amazing Kavemen at Kuna Middle School! This week, over 20 students were nominated by teachers, and 40 students submitted shout-outs for teachers.

Student Shout-Outs

Ariana Watson (Nominated by Ms. Juarez): Ariana picked up over 100 pieces of trash on the football field! Thank you for keeping our school clean!
Clara Murphy (Nominated by Mrs. Harley): Clara is always positive and kind, lifting others up with an optimistic mindset.
Silas Reed (Nominated by Mrs. Mathias): Silas stayed back in Career Explorations to help plug in all the tech for the next day. It is so helpful!

Teacher Recognition

Mrs. Mathias: Students describe Mrs. Mathias as caring, helpful, and kind. They love her positive and fun energy in class, noting that she always makes everyone feel welcome and goes out of her way to provide extra support whenever students need it. She was also recognized as an awesome and supportive coach.
Ms. Emma Jones: Students appreciate her patience, kindness, and helpfulness, noting that she is always willing to step in and assist whenever a student needs help.
Mrs. Birkinbine: Students highlighted her sense of humor and engaging teaching style. They shared that she makes learning fun, creates an enjoyable classroom environment, and is one of the best math teachers they have had.

If your student had their photo taken on Picture Day at Open House, their proof is now available at http://www.directphoto.net/ - You will need your student's school ID number to access the gallery. From there you can select multiple backgrounds, packages, a la cart, and various products.

Retakes

Picture Retake Day is coming up! If your student needs a retake, or if they missed photo day, this is their chance to get a fresh photo and put their best smile forward.

To help the day run smoothly, parents will need to sign up for a timeslot using the Google Form below.

Attendance Matters

Thanks for calling in your child's absence so that we can make sure it is excused. Here are some ways you can get your child's absence excused:

E-Bikes and Scooters

E-bikes and scooters are popular and effective way to get to school. Students are not allowed to ride any bike or scooter on campus. Students must dismount in the parking lot and on the side walks for safety.

Students should wear a helmet and have a light on their bike or scooter. We have lights available for free. See the office or Detective Lakey for a free light.

There are legal restrictions on what types of e-bikes can be ridden by students. Take a look at the flier below from our School Resource Officers about the laws for different types of e-bikes.

No place for bullying and harassment at Kuna Middle

Bullying is more than disagreements, differences of opinion, or conflicts that occur between friends and classmates. Bullying is when the target is being hurt or harmed by unwanted words or behavior and when thee hurtful behavior is repeated or there is a concern that it will be repeated. Bullying and harassment are against the law in Idaho!

There is no place for bullying and harassment at Kuna Middle School.

Students can talk to their counselor about bullying. They can also report it to the SRO or administration.

Kuna Middle has several programs designed to promote kindness and prevent bullying and harassment.

See Something Say Something: Counselors have been doing class presentations encouraging students that if they see something wrong, to say something. Students can also use the See Tell Now website to report any concerning situations. Link to more info is below.

Restorative Practices: Students who persistently cannot get along with others may need to participate in a class to teach skills needed to do so.

Advisory lessons: Students participate in Advisory lessons provided by counselors at the beginning of the day to learn how to get along with others.

Sources of Strength: A program that trains youth and adults to intervene using a strength-based and upstream approach to mental health promotion and prevention of adverse outcomes like suicide, violence, bullying, and substance misuse.

CAST is our student leadership program. Students in CAST organize activities around leadership, service, and kindness. CAST runs our KAVE Kart on Fridays where students can spend their KAVE tickets on fun items as a reward for being a good citizen.

After School Tutoring: Now that we are into the 3rd week of school, Kuna Middle School is offering tutoring with teachers after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30pm-3:15pm.
