8th Grade Field Day May 28th!

8th grade students learned about our end of year Field Day during advisory this week. We will have lots of fun activities and food for the 8th grade students to celebrate their success and hang out together before the end of the year. Students will get a t-shirt, BBQ lunch, their yearbooks, we will have food trucks, lawn games, tug-of-war, an obstacle course, dunk tank, door prizes, and much more. We are looking for sponsors and donations to be able to keep the cost down for students. If you want to help or know someone who wants to please reach out to the KMS office staff.

Advisory Update

Understanding the Teen Brain

This week in Advisory, our students investigated how the adolescent brain is uniquely wired for learning and growth. Through our lesson, "The Teen Brain: Brains Under Construction," students explored how their brains are currently going through a period of high "plasticity." They worked in research teams to investigate different brain regions and presented "Lightning Talks" to their peers, illustrating how these biological changes impact everything from decision-making to social sensitivity.

The core goal of this week was to help students leverage this development to build a Growth Mindset. We discussed how adolescence isn't a problem to be solved, but a "Superlearning" phase where they can intentionally strengthen neural connections. To continue the conversation at home, you might ask your student what they wish adults understood about the way their brain works, or how they can use this period of high brain activity to master new skills they are passionate about.
