8th Grade Field Day May 28th!

8th grade students learned about our end of year Field Day during advisory this week. We will have lots of fun activities and food for the 8th grade students to celebrate their success and hang out together before the end of the year. Students will get a t-shirt, BBQ lunch, their yearbooks, we will have food trucks, games, an obstacle course, dunk tank, door prizes, and much more. We are looking for sponsors and donations to be able to keep the cost down for students. If you want to help or know someone who wants to please reach out to the KMS office staff.

Save the date for KMS, FMS, & SMS Summer School, June 4-25, 8 AM-12 PM, housed at FMS.

Success During ISAT Season

We have just one more week of ISAT testing ahead. We are very proud of how serious students took the Language Arts ISAT and hope they continue their hard work and focus for the final (Math) ISAT next week. Students who miss an ISAT will be given the opportunity to make up their missed test(s) soon.

🗓️ Important Testing Dates
Please mark your calendars for the upcoming ISAT sessions:
  • School-wide Math: Tuesday & Thursday, April 28 & 30

Three Ways to Support Your Student
While the students do the heavy lifting in the classroom, a little extra support at home makes a world of difference:
  1. Prioritize Sleep: A well-rested brain processes information faster and stays focused longer. Help your child get to bed a little earlier than usual on the nights before testing.
  2. Nutritious Fuel: A solid breakfast—and staying hydrated—prevents the "mid-morning slump" and keeps energy levels steady through the final question.
  3. Positive Encouragement: A simple "I’m proud of your hard work" or "Just do your best" goes a long way. Remind them that these tests are just a chance to show what they’ve learned, and their effort is what truly counts.

Thank you for helping us make this a successful and stress-free testing season for all our students!

Testing Schedule

The ISAT test has two parts to the test, the computer adapted test which is multiple choice and adapts to student answers and the performance task which is math problems where students will have to show their work.

Math ISAT Computer Adapted Test:
April 28, 2026 7:40am-9:40am

Math Performance Task:
April 30, 2026 7:40am-8:40am

Peer ISAT Encouragement

6th Grade CAST was hard at work this week creating and displaying posters throughout the school to encourage their peers during state testing. Their messages focus on doing your best, staying confident, and showing what you know.
Students hold up posters with motivational messages for testing week.

Advisory Update

From "Performance Coaches" to Planet Protectors

To prepare for ISATs, students participated in a Strategy Gallery Walk. Rather than just listening to a lecture, students took on the role of "Performance Coaches" to help each other normalize testing anxiety and build a shared survival guide.

Testing "Toolbox"
To prepare for state assessments, students acted as "Performance Coaches" in a strategy gallery walk. Rather than just talking about the test, they collaborated to build a survival guide of peer-approved tips. They focused on four key areas: staying focused when the room is quiet, using the process of elimination on tough questions, using physical "reset" techniques like box breathing to stay calm, and double-checking for simple mistakes.

Earth Day: The Impact of Everyday Items
We celebrated Earth Day by investigating the environmental footprint of a common school tool: the pencil. Students explored the lifecycle of a pencil—from the cedar forests and graphite mines to the energy used in manufacturing and shipping. The activity encouraged students to be mindful consumers by researching eco-friendly brands and practicing simple habits, like sharpening less frequently, to reduce waste.

Four Wipebook charts display strategies for students: 'Zen Zone' for calming, 'Final Check' for reviewing, 'Focus Shield' for boredom, and 'I'm Stuck' for problem-solving.
