Student Attendance

Student attendance is important for success in school. If your child needs to miss school because they are sick or due to a family issue, please let the school know as soon as you can. You can excuse your child in these ways:

If you get a notification from Parent Square that your child is absent, you can reply to that message to excuse them.
If you are notified that your student is absent during the day, you can also message the teacher through ParentSquare with questions.

Advisory Update

We began by helping students clean out their backpacks and organize their learning tools and papers—something many students (and teachers!) definitely benefitted from. Staying organized helps students manage materials more effectively and keeps their backpacks from becoming a black hole of lost pencils and mysterious papers.

Students also watched a short video titled “Rethinking Higher Ed,” which explores how college and career pathways are changing. The video encourages students to think about the wide range of options available to them and emphasizes the value of building practical skills for their future.

In addition, students completed the iReady Reading Diagnostic. This assessment helps teachers identify learning gaps, tailor instruction, and determine WIN groupings so each student receives support that fits their needs.

Start Collecting Pop Tabs!

Next week, we will kick off a friendly competition in advisory to see which class can collect the most soda/pop tabs. All collected tabs will go toward Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho, thanks to the Colquitt family.

James and Stephanie Colquitt have been collecting pop tabs every year to donate in honor of their son Kai, who passed away in 2019 at just six weeks old. This year, our students have the chance to help them collect even more tabs for their 2026 donation, making a meaningful contribution while learning the impact of small acts of generosity.

We can’t wait to see which advisory will bring in the most tabs and support this special cause!

WIN

(What I Need)

WIN Time & iReady MyPath

Each day of the week—except Wednesday—students participate in a WIN class designed to fit their individual needs. These groups change every 3–4 weeks to ensure targeted support. During WIN, students primarily focus on additional language arts and math instruction or intervention.

One of the tools we use to personalize instruction is iReady MyPath. This program begins with a diagnostic to determine each student’s current skill level and creates a personalized learning path to help fill any gaps. To get the most benefit, students should spend about 45 minutes per week on MyPath—enough time to complete approximately two lessons.

Starting this week, all students at KMS are expected to work on MyPath on Monday and Thursday each week. Each grade-level team has also developed incentives to encourage and celebrate student progress!

Students can also log into iReady and MyPath at home and work on lessons!
