Kindness - Accountability - Vibes - Effort

November 15, 2025

Kuna Middle School Behavior Expectations

Ms. Wilson, our Principal, met with teachers and students this week to review our schoolwide behavior expectations. The groups decided to change our values to: Kindness, Accountability (from Attitude), Vibe (as in positive vibes, from Values), and Effort (from Excellence). Everyone thought these words still capture our values but better display our current school emphasis.

Our Veteran's Day assembly speaker encouraged the student body to be the kind of person who is positive and builds others up. Also, to always try your best. We all thought these words exemplified that sentiment.

Students can earn KAVE tickets for showing behaviors that show kindness, accountability, positive vibes, and effort. every other Friday we have our KAVE Kart where students can purchase items with their KAVE tickets. We also took feedback from students about KAVE tickets and items on the KAVE Kart that we are working on implementing for the next KAVE Kart.

Student Attendance

Student attendance is important for success in school. If your child needs to miss school because they are sick or due to a family issue, please let the school know as soon as you can. You can excuse your child in these ways:

If you get a notification from Parent Square that your child is absent, you can reply to that message to excuse them.
If you are notified that your student is absent during the day, you can also message the teacher through ParentSquare with questions.

School Lunch Information

Students are not allowed to “charge” meals (eat now and pay later). Please ensure your child has funds available for school meals.

Families can pay for meals by using the LINQ system or by cash/check.

💻 LINQ Connect-Online Payment System. Set up a free online account. With this system, you can add money to your child(ren)’s accounts, set up low-balance alerts, monitor your child(ren)’s spending, and view school menus.
LINQ CONNECT Link below.

📝 Cash or Check:
Send a check (payable to Kuna School District CNP). Please include your child’s full name on the check.
Send cash in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it.

⚠️ Please note: Schools cannot accept debit cards.

🍎 Free & Reduced-Price Meals
Families are encouraged to apply online for free or reduced-price meals.

See the link at the bottom of this newsletter for more information including lunch menus or please call our Child Nutrition Team at (208) 922-1101.

The KMS PTO has established the Feed it Forward Program as a bridge for families who are in between lunch payments. This allows students to eat free of charge when their lunch account balance is low. Feed it Forward is intended as a temporary service to ensure every student gets a meal at school. If a child accesses Feed it Forward for several days in a row, counselors will contact parents with options for payment or assistance.

Advisory Update

Building Respect, Responsibility, and Community

This week in advisory, students engaged in several meaningful activities connected to school expectations, digital citizenship, and the idea of community.

Students began the week by reviewing expectations for the upcoming Veterans Day assembly. Classes discussed the meaning of reverence and explored how to show respect for veterans through their actions. Students demonstrated a strong understanding of the purpose of the assembly and modeled the behavior expected during an event honoring our nation’s most dedicated citizens.

Students also viewed a video created by KMS CAST about the power of words, which included the “love/hate rice experiment.” The message resonated with students, and they participated in thoughtful conversations about how language influences others. You can find the video below.

Another focus this week was internet safety. Families may find the following conversation starters helpful when discussing online habits at home:
  • What apps or websites do you use most, and why?
  • What do you do if something online makes you uncomfortable?
  • How can you tell if a message, post, or account is trustworthy?
  • What should you do if someone online asks for personal information?
A slideshow used during this lesson is linked below for families who would like to review the content together.

To close the week, KMS Sources of Strength facilitated a presentation on community and a sense of belonging. Students reflected on the many communities they are part of—at school, in activities, at home, and beyond. Each student created a paper “Instagram post” highlighting how they belong within the KMS community, using the hashtag #webelong@KMS.

Across all activities, students demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and genuine engagement. The school is incredibly proud of the way they approached each topic this week.

Tutor.com

Tutor.com is an online service that connects students with live tutors to help them with schoolwork. Think of it like a library study room, but it's on the internet and you can get help any time of the day or night. It's designed to give students one-on-one help to understand tough subjects and finish their homework.

Teacher Office Hours

Teacher office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30pm-3:15pm. Students can get extra help from their teachers outside of class time. These sessions allow students to work with their teacher one-on-one or in a small group. Students can ask specific questions about homework or tests, and teachers can explain things in new ways. Please note, there is no afterschool transportation.

WIN Time-"What I Need"

WIN Time is time built into the school day to provide every student with personalized support. It allows teachers to give extra help to students who are struggling, and offer challenging and interesting activities to those who are on track. WIN is attached to student's 3rd period class and students move to the appropriate class based on academic data. We take attendance in WIN and although it is not graded, it is an essential part of the school day. We will be making changes to WIN to provide more enriching opportunities for students who have mastered grade level content and provide behavior support for those who need it.

Grade Checks

Parents should expect grades to be updated by teachers by Friday mornings. Students and teachers will check grades on Friday during Advisory. Parents will receive an email with their child's grades every Friday evening. We encourage you to spend a few moments each weekend reviewing your child's academic progress with them.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to their teachers through ParentSquare direct message.
