This week in advisory, students engaged in several meaningful activities connected to school expectations, digital citizenship, and the idea of community.
Students began the week by reviewing expectations for the upcoming Veterans Day assembly. Classes discussed the meaning of reverence and explored how to show respect for veterans through their actions. Students demonstrated a strong understanding of the purpose of the assembly and modeled the behavior expected during an event honoring our nation’s most dedicated citizens.
Students also viewed a video created by KMS CAST about the power of words, which included the “love/hate rice experiment.” The message resonated with students, and they participated in thoughtful conversations about how language influences others. You can find the video below.
Another focus this week was internet safety. Families may find the following conversation starters helpful when discussing online habits at home:
- What apps or websites do you use most, and why?
- What do you do if something online makes you uncomfortable?
- How can you tell if a message, post, or account is trustworthy?
- What should you do if someone online asks for personal information?
A slideshow used during this lesson is linked below for families who would like to review the content together.
To close the week, KMS Sources of Strength facilitated a presentation on community and a sense of belonging. Students reflected on the many communities they are part of—at school, in activities, at home, and beyond. Each student created a paper “Instagram post” highlighting how they belong within the KMS community, using the hashtag #webelong@KMS.
Across all activities, students demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and genuine engagement. The school is incredibly proud of the way they approached each topic this week.
