September 12, 2025

It's Homecoming Week in Kuna!

Kuna Middle School will celebrate Homecoming Week along with Kuna High School. The dress up days are:
Monday-Tie Dye
Tuesday-Twin Day
Wednesday-Tacky Tourist
Thursday-Tiaras and Tutus
Friday-Spirit Day
All costumes must be school appropriate and meet dress code coverage etc. No full face paint.

Picture Retakes are Coming Up!

A reminder that students should have their ID badge with them every day at school. Students are required to wear them when they leave class during class time. Students need their ID card for other activities at school such as scanning it to get a breakfast or lunch and to check out a library book.

For parents who want to order a package of their child's school pictures and want a retake, Retake Day will be Friday September 26th. Retakes are for any student or staff that were absent during picture day, new to KMS, or if you do not like the original picture for ordering.

Your student must be signed up in order to do a retake. If your student needs a retake, please sign them up for a time-slot using the Google Form linked below. Please complete the form by Tuesday, September 24th so we can schedule all students accordingly.

We will not be reprinting ID cards if your student received on on the original picture day. We will only print IDs for new students or those who were absent on picture day.

Academic Supports

The staff at Kuna Middle School is committed to helping our students succeed academically! We have many programs and resources designed to give your child the support they need to do well in school. We encourage all families to use these resources. Together, we can help our students reach their academic goals.

Tutor.com

Tutor.com is an online service that connects students with live tutors to help them with schoolwork. Think of it like a library study room, but it's on the internet and you can get help any time of the day or night. It's designed to give students one-on-one help to understand tough subjects and finish their homework.

WIN Time

WIN Time stands for "What I Need." It's a special time built into the school day to provide every student with personalized support. It allows teachers to give extra help to students who are struggling, and offer challenging and interesting activities to those who are on track. We started our WIN Time this week. WIN is attached to student's 3rd period class and students move to the appropriate class based on academic data.

Teacher Office Hours

Teacher office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-3:15pm. Students can get extra help from their teachers outside of class time. These sessions allow students to work with their teacher one-on-one or in a small group. Students can ask specific questions about homework or tests, and teachers can explain things in new ways. Students must have their own ride home.

Advisory Update

This Week in Advisory

This week in advisory, students explored several meaningful topics. They learned about academic grit and how perseverance supports success, practiced relational capacity through a “Making Words with Classmates” activity, and discussed the importance of setting and respecting boundaries. Students also took time to honor Patriot Day with reflection and discussion.

Later in the week, students completed grade checks. As part of this process, any student with a D or F drafted a message to their teachers, which will be forwarded to parents. These messages include an action plan describing how students intend to improve their grade(s). We encourage parents to review these messages with their child, and to support and encourage them as they work toward improving their grades and meeting their goals.

Next Week in Advisory

Next week in advisory, we will continue our discussion of academic grit. Students will set new short and long-term academic and personal goals moving forward.

Throughout the week, students will continue building relational capacity, take time to reflect on Constitution Day, and be introduced to several of our support staff, including our school counselors, college and career advisor, and school psychologist.

To close the week, students will complete their regular grade checks.

Sources of Strength

KMS Peer Mentors participated in Sources of Strength training; a nationwide program that empowers students to use their personal strengths and supportive networks to promote hope, help, and strength.

Students engaged in fun activities, built strong relationships, and began planning how to share these strengths with our school and community.

Sports

Week 4

Mark your calendars and get ready for some awesome middle school sports! The KMS girls volleyball teams are gearing up to take on Middleton MS, Fremont MS, and more. Come cheer on the 7th and 8th grade squads as they spike, set, and serve their way to victory!
But that's not all - the 7th and 8th grade football teams are also hitting the field to battle it out against Lone Star Middle School. This is going to be an intense gridiron showdown you won't want to miss.

Student Attendance

Student attendance is important for success in school. Students should be present as much as they can. If your child needs to miss school because they are sick or due to a family issue, please let the school know as soon as you can. You can excuse your child in these ways:

If you get a notification from Parent Square that your child is absent, you can reply to that message to excuse them.
If you are notified that your student is absent during the day, you can also message the teacher through ParentSquare with questions.

Excessive Tardies

Being on time is a life skill we emphasize at Kuna Middle School. If a student is tardy (late) to one class 5 times in one week or 5 times total to any class in one week, they will receive a lunch time detention. If there is a reason that the student is late, they should communicate that to their teacher.

  • Every Wednesday, wear a T-shirt, sweatshirt, or anything else that shows off your favorite college, career, or military branch. It's a fun and easy way to get everyone thinking about what comes next after high school.
  • Keep an eye out for Kim Riggs from the College & Career team—she'll be walking around and giving out prizes to students and staff who participate!

Grade Checks

Kuna Middle School will check grades for all students every Friday during Advisory. Parents will receive an email with their child's grades every Friday evening. We encourage you to spend a few moments each weekend reviewing your child's academic progress with them.
Keeping an eye on your child's grades is an important way to stay updated on how they are doing and to find any areas where they may need extra help. By checking in weekly, you can help them stay on track to meet their learning goals.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to their teachers. The best way to contact teachers is through ParentSquare direct message.
We are here to work together and provide the support your student needs to succeed.

A Note from Our Principal, Ms. Wilson

Dear Students, Families, and Staff,

This week our Sources of Strength peer mentors met to be trained how to become natural leaders in our school. The Kuna High School CAST students are participating in KunaBOLD and are working with the KMS CAST students to spread positive messages. Together they Chalked the Walk at KMS this week. It's great to see our Kuna community supporting each other and lifting each other up in positive ways!

Don't forget that on Friday, parents will receive an automated message with your child's grades. Additionally, if your child is struggling academically, you will receive an additional email written in collaboration between your child and his or her advisory teacher.

Thank you for your partnership with Kuna Middle School in your child's education.

Have a great weekend! Go Kavemen!
