Kindness - Attitude - Values - Excellence

September 5, 2025

It's been a great week at Kuna Middle School

Kuna Middle School sports is well under way and it's been great to see our athletes shine! During Advisory, students have been learning about the KMS Student Handbook. We have provided a link for parents with this newsletter. We have also started our WIN (What I Need) time for universal intervention and enrichment. Students are engaging in their learning and great things are happening in the classroom. Be sure to ask your child what they have been learning!

A reminder that students should have their ID badge with them every day at school. Students are required to wear them when they leave class during class time. Students need their ID card for other activities at school such as scanning it to get a breakfast or lunch and to check out a library book. For parents who want to order retakes of their child's school photo, Retake Day will be Friday September 26th.

In this newsletter we have updates on more of the latest news at KMS. See the links below for more information!

Have a great weekend! Go Kavemen!

Academic Supports

The staff at Kuna Middle School is committed to helping our students succeed academically! We have many programs and resources designed to give your child the support they need to do well in school. We encourage all families to use these resources. Together, we can help our students reach their academic goals.

Tutor.com

Tutor.com is an online service that connects students with live tutors to help them with schoolwork. Think of it like a library study room, but it's on the internet and you can get help any time of the day or night. It's designed to give students one-on-one help to understand tough subjects and finish their homework.

WIN Time

WIN Time stands for "What I Need." It's a special time built into the school day to provide every student with personalized support. It allows teachers to give extra help to students who are struggling, and offer challenging and interesting activities to those who are on track. We started our WIN Time this week. WIN is attached to student's 3rd period class and students move to the appropriate class based on academic data.

Teacher Office Hours

Teacher office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-3:15pm. Students can get extra help from their teachers outside of class time. These sessions allow students to work with their teacher one-on-one or in a small group. Students can ask specific questions about homework or tests, and teachers can explain things in new ways.

Advisory Update

How is Advisory Different This Year?

This year, advisory at KMS is shifting back to a more traditional “homeroom” model, giving students a consistent place to start their day and connect with peers and teachers. Advisory will be focused on building relationships, establishing routines, and supporting students’ growth both inside and outside of the classroom.

Each day will have a specific focus to help guide students:
  • Student Skills – goal setting, problem solving, time management, and collaboration.
  • AVID Strategies – writing, inquiry, and organization skills.
  • Counselor Topics – conflict resolution, handling stress, friendships, and other relevant topics.
  • Sources of Strength – a new program at KMS that highlights protective factors such as family support, mentors, generosity, and physical and mental health.
  • Grade Checks – time for students to stay accountable and track their academic progress.
  • Holidays – observance and understanding of various US Holidays.
Our goal is to use this time to help students develop the skills, confidence, and support systems they need to become capable young adults ready to tackle any challenge.

Family Connection

Starting next week, this newsletter will provide at-home discussion questions. These are designed to spark meaningful conversations and give parents and guardians a window into the topics we’re covering in Advisory. Our hope is that this strengthens the school-to-home connection while encouraging students to reflect more deeply on what they are learning.

Sports -Week 4

Mark your calendars and get ready for some awesome middle school sports! The KMS girls volleyball teams are gearing up to take on Middleton MS, Fremont MS, and more. Come cheer on the 7th and 8th grade squads as they spike, set, and serve their way to victory!
But that's not all - the 7th and 8th grade football teams are also hitting the field to battle it out against Lone Star Middle School. This is going to be an intense gridiron showdown you won't want to miss.

Student Attendance

Student attendance is important for success in school. Students should be present as much as they can. If your child needs to miss school because they are sick or due to a family issue, please let the school know as soon as you can. You can excuse your child in these ways:

If you get a notification from Parent Square that your child is absent, you can reply to that message to excuse them.
If you are notified that your student is absent during the day, you can also message the teacher through ParentSquare with questions.

Excessive Tardies

Being on time is a life skill we emphasize at Kuna Middle School. If a student is tardy (late) to one class 5 times in one week or 5 times total to any class in one week, they will receive a lunch time detention. If there is a reason that the student is late, they should communicate that to their teacher.

  • Ready to show your school spirit? Wear It Wednesday is a district-wide event, and it's your chance to represent your future!
  • Every Wednesday, wear a T-shirt, sweatshirt, or anything else that shows off your favorite college, career, or military branch. It's a fun and easy way to get everyone thinking about what comes next after high school.
  • Keep an eye out for Kim Riggs from the College & Career team—she'll be walking around and giving out prizes to students and staff who participate!

Grade Checks

Kuna Middle School will check grades for all students every Friday during Advisory. Parents will receive an email with their child's grades every Friday evening. We encourage you to spend a few moments each weekend reviewing your child's academic progress with them.
Keeping an eye on your child's grades is an important way to stay updated on how they are doing and to find any areas where they may need extra help. By checking in weekly, you can help them stay on track to meet their learning goals.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to their teachers. The best way to contact teachers is through ParentSquare direct message.
We are here to work together and provide the support your student needs to succeed.

Parking Lot Drop Off & Pick Up

To keep our students safe during busy pick-up and drop-off times, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Drive Slowly and Carefully: Always watch for students, crossing guards, and other cars.
  2. Use Designated Zones: Please use the pick-up and drop-off areas and avoid double parking to keep traffic moving smoothly.
  3. Use Crosswalks: Encourage your student to use crosswalks and avoid walking through the parking lot.
  4. Be Patient and Courteous: Let’s be kind and support each other during these busy times.
By following these safety rules, we can help keep our school community safe. Thank you for your cooperation in protecting our young Kavemen!

Principal Wilson

A Note from Our Principal, Ms. Wilson

Dear Students, Families, and Staff,

I’ve been so impressed by the positive energy in our hallways and the way our students have embraced our core values of kindness, positive attitudes, values such as respect, hard work, perseverance, and excellence (KAVE). It’s clear that everyone is working hard to create a supportive learning environment, and that is a true testament to our community. We have shared expectations of our KAVE core values with students and how they can embody these values in our school.

Don't forget that on Friday you will receive an automated message with your child's grades . Additionally, if your child is struggling academically, you will receive an additional email written in collaboration between your child and his or her advisory teacher.

Thank you for your partnership with Kuna Middle School in your child's education.

Have a great weekend!
