From the Principal: A Collaborative Community
Kuna Middle School Families,

As you know, our school is dedicated to our mission of providing high-quality instruction so all students learn at the highest level, working towards our vision of becoming a top-performing school. This week, I'm highlighting the heartbeat of our school, which is a collaborative spirit that drives our success. Our teachers and staff constantly learn and improve together, focused on every student's success. The energy and dedication I witness daily are truly inspiring. Our teachers and staff are deeply committed to working together to create a supportive and challenging learning environment for all students. They understand that collaboration is the key to unlocking potential and achieving our shared goals.

Here's some of the many ways that collaboration works at KMS:

  • Data-Driven Instruction: Teachers analyze student data, share best practices, and adjust teaching to ensure no student falls behind. This allows us to personalize learning.
  • Team Teaching & Co-Planning: Teachers work together to plan and teach, creating a richer learning experience.
  • Professional Learning Communities: Our staff engages in ongoing professional development, sharing ideas and staying current on best practices.
I want you to know that our teachers and staff are deeply committed to creating a supportive learning environment. They know collaboration unlocks potential and helps our school community grow stronger each day.

Partners in Learning,

Shelly Manuel

8th Grade Earth Science
This week, we explored the connections between the water cycle and air pressure, focusing on how radiation, conduction, and convection influence these processes. Heat transfer is a key concept that will continue to appear throughout our future units.

Midweek, students participated in an engaging lab using smoke, ice, and hot water to model convection and observe how air moves.

Students were able to observe how temperature influences air using Convection Tubes. Smoke condensed in the tube containing ice causing it to sink. The smoke funneled into the tube containing the candle due to the change in air pressure.

Outdoor Recess Decisions
Recess Guidelines
The decision to cancel outdoor recess will be made 10 minutes before students are released based on the digital outdoor thermometers at each school.
  • 22°F and above: students and recess monitors will go out.
  • 18-22°F: Shortened recess and teachers may choose to keep students in but recess monitors will go out
  • A room will be open for students who want to stay in with one recess monitor. Other students may go outside and will be supervised by the other monitor on duty.
  • 18°F and below: No outdoor recess will be held as the temperature is too cold for safe outdoor activities.
  • Before school starts students will be sent to the gyms. Recess monitors will supervise students until they are sent directly to class at 8:00 a.m. Monitors will help to direct students to their classrooms.
  • Students and recess monitors will stay inside during recess. Movies will be shown during lunch with monitors in the movie rooms.

Feed it Forward
Food Insecurity is on the rise at Kuna Middle School
Feed it Forward is a program hosted by KMS PTO for KMS students.
It allows anyone to donate in order to cover needed school lunch funds.
Students are not allowed to charge meals.
Insufficient funds= no lunch
Short $.50 =no lunch

But, Feed it Forward can cover a student that day, so they can have a
hot lunch.
KMS PTO donated $500 in March to the program, that money was well spent covering student lunches.
They have donated another $500, but it will likely be gone in six weeks or less.
Please consider donating.

How to donate:
Scan the QR code, Specify Feed it Forward on your donation
If you would like a receipt, please reach out to the KMS PTO and they will provide one.
KMS PTO is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization
Thank you for supporting KMS and it's students
