From the Principal: Thankful for Our Kuna Middle School Community
Dear KMS Families,
Thanksgiving break is here, and it’s the perfect time to pause and say thank you. I’m so grateful for our amazing Kuna Middle School community. Each of you—students, parents, and staff—makes our school a special place to learn and grow.
Our families specifically play such an important role by supporting our student’s learning and cheering them on. Thank you for trusting us to be part of their journey. During this break, I hope you get to spend time with loved ones and celebrate all the things that make your family special. This week, ask your student about something they’re proud of or something new they’ve learned. Celebrate their efforts together! And if you’d like, reply to this newsletter or reach out to share a thought or question—we'd love to hear from you.
Have a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving,
Partners in Learning,
Shelly Manuel
Principal, KMS

AVID BSU Visit
AVID students had a great day exploring Boise State University campus and listening to Dr. Picklestein. We love AVID!
KHS Music Dept. Visit
This week the high school band, choir and orchestra visited KMS. They sang and played songs to promote getting involved in extracurriculars. We ended the assembly by learning the Kuna High fight song! K-U-N-A KUNA HIGH!
Thank you PTO!
The cheerleaders came to the PTO meeting to show thanks to the PTO for buying them mats so they can stunt. Great job cheerleaders and thank you PTO for supporting our school!
Facts and Snacks
We had special guests from Micron, a global leader in innovation, here to share insights into the latest advancements in technology. Students were able learn about cutting-edge tech trends, ask questions, and get inspired about the future of the industry.
Recess Guidelines
The decision to cancel outdoor recess will be made 10 minutes before students are released based on the digital outdoor thermometers at each school.
22°F and above: students and recess monitors will go out.
18-22°F: Shortened recess and teachers may choose to keep students in but recess monitors will go out OR
A room will be open for students who want to stay in with one recess monitor. Other students may go outside and will be supervised by the other monitor on duty.
18°F and below: No outdoor recess will be held as the temperature is too cold for safe outdoor activities.
Before school starts students will be sent to the gyms. Recess monitors will supervise students until they are sent directly to class at 8:00 a.m. Monitors will help to direct students to their classrooms.
Students and recess monitors will stay inside during recess. Movies will be shown during lunch with monitors in the movie rooms.

Living organisms are made up of several levels of organization, each building on the one before it. At the most basic level, cells are the smallest units of life and carry out the essential functions needed for survival. Groups of similar cells work together to form tissues, like muscle tissue or nerve tissue, each with a specific function. These tissues combine to form organs, such as the heart or lungs, which carry out specific tasks in the body. Organs that work together to perform a broader function form organ systems, like the circulatory system or respiratory system. Finally, all of these systems come together to form an organism, which is a complete, living being. This organization allows organisms to function efficiently and carry out complex life processes.
These students put in a tremendous amount of work and deserve to be recognized! Their efforts on these assignments go above and beyond what was expected, thank you!
Volcanoes!
Students modeled the formation of new land forms using hot wax. The wax represented molten rock and the process it goes through as it hardens to form new surface features on earth.
We also used dish soap and corn syrup to investigate how the viscosity of magma affects the behavior of lava flows.
Finally, in the finale of the week, students simulated volcanic ash fall by blowing corn kernels, corn meal, and cornstarch into the air. Students determined the relationship between the distance traveled and the properties of the "ash."
History
In History class, the students are learning about the Potlatch Ceremony. They have created totem poles and they feasted, sang, danced and gave gifts around the fire. Mrs. Kay gave the students an eraser, signifying that their mistakes don't define them and all wrongs can be made right. Great job 6th graders and great job to Mrs. Kay for making History fun!
Boxing Day
Students also celebrate Boxing Day, a Canadian holiday. Traditionally people would box up gifts and donate them, hence the name boxing day. They celebrate with "leftover" turkey sandwiches, ginger ale and hockey, complete with Canadian national anthem, eh?
Athletics
Girls Basketball
Cheer
Wrestling
KMS had three girls compete in the Intervalley League Girl's Wrestling Tournament and all three placed!

Feed it Forward
Food Insecurity is on the rise at Kuna Middle School
Feed it Forward is a program hosted by KMS PTO for KMS students.
It allows anyone to donate in order to cover needed school lunch funds.
Students are not allowed to charge meals.
Insufficient funds= no lunch
Short $.50 =no lunch
But, Feed it Forward can cover a student that day, so they can have a
hot lunch.
KMS PTO donated $500 in March to the program, that money was well spent covering student lunches.
They have donated another $500, but it will likely be gone in six weeks or less.
Please consider donating.
How to donate:
Scan the QR code, Specify Feed it Forward on your donation
If you would like a receipt, please reach out to the KMS PTO and they will provide one.
