Thank you to the community for support of supplemental levy

The Nov. 5 Supplemental Levy was successful. Assistant Superintendent Jason Reddy thanked trustees, members of the levy information committee, and parents, business and community members who advocated for the measure. The Kuna Way Award was given to advocacy organizers Ana Paz and Enrique Contreras, owners of Enrique’s Restaurant.  

 
Board reviews baseline data in reading, math
Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Kevin Gifford reviewed results from reading and math tests students take at the start of the school year. The data provides a baseline for educators to set goals and to measure and track progress throughout the school year.

Cell phone policy being reviewed
Under Good of the Order, Chair Nixon shared that work is starting to review the cell phone procedures and policy with different teams.  

Board considers topics for training
Chair Kim Nixon shared she participated in several quality professional development sessions at the school board’s conference Nov. 6-8. She reviewed options for training to be held with Kuna at an upcoming meeting focused on continuous improvement and accountability.

Policy decisions
Most policies are reviewed by the district's policy committee comprised of staff, parents, and two school board members before being considered by the board.

The board adopts new, amends existing, and removes policies through a series of "readings."

  • The first reading is typically the start of the process and can include discussions about changes.
  • The second reading allows for changes to be reviewed and/or additional changes to be made.
  • The third reading is typically the final step.

The public may provide feedback at every reading.

Consent Agenda
A consent agenda groups routine items for a single motion and vote, saving time in board meetings. It includes non-controversial items like approving minutes or standard reports. Any board member can request to pull an item for separate discussion and vote if needed.

The Kuna School District is governed by an elected board of trustees, with each trustee representing a specific geographic area of the district, known as a Zone.

Each year, the trustees elect a chairman and vice chairman to lead the board.
