From the Principal-Update

Hello Kuna Middle School Families,

With change comes growth. This year of transition will provide tremendous growth and learning opportunities for all of us at KMS, students, staff, and community members. As we start this new adventure together, it’s important to be mindful of the role education plays during this developmental period. At KMS, we intend to create memories of belonging, togetherness, safety, courage, and strength. When students feel connected and safe, their ability to grow and learn increases exponentially.

The adolescent years bring many unique challenges and exciting opportunities for growth and we strive to support students through this important developmental time in their lives. Middle school students grow constantly in many ways. In the article from NAESP.org  “A Quick Look Into the Middle School Brain,” author Emma S. McDonald describes how the brain develops in adolescents, how we can understand it better, and how to support our children and students. Helping students develop a positive self-esteem, positive self-image, and positive interpersonal relationships enable them the opportunity to learn their role in the world in a safe manner. Embracing the passion and energy of young adolescents is both the challenge and the joy of working with these students.

As a community at KMS, we are working together to best meet the needs of your child, whether they be social, emotional, academic, or other needs. We ask for a healthy partnership with you to help your child learn and grow. Know that our goal is to assist every child in meeting their full potential. We are stronger in working together rather than separately.

Yeats once said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” Being an excellent school is much more than students gaining knowledge and skills; we hope to inspire our youth to do and be their best, even in the face of challenge.

Join us in our mission to inspire our youth to feel passionate about their educational journey. Share your ideas, your dreams for your child, your expectations, and your feedback with us. Stronger together.
